- Tell us your Brisbane commitment, whether a meeting, a stadium event or a hotel check-in, and we will plan the departure backwards from it.
The trip from Byron Bay back to Brisbane is not simply the outbound journey in reverse. It starts with a checkout deadline, crosses a border where the clocks can change, and finishes in a city where traffic, hotel driveways and event crowds all matter. A private chauffeur lets you spend the last morning in Byron properly and still arrive in Brisbane on time and in good shape.
The trip north at a glance
From Byron Bay, your chauffeur heads out along Ewingsdale Road to the Pacific Highway, runs north past Brunswick Heads and the Tweed, and crosses into Queensland near Tweed Heads. From there it is the M1 Pacific Motorway the length of the Gold Coast and on through Logan to Brisbane.
It is around 170 km to the CBD, and typically about two hours without stops. That is the clear-road figure. Northbound traffic patterns are different from the trip south, which we explain in the drive north below.
If you are travelling the other way, our guide to the Brisbane to Byron Bay private transfer covers the southbound route and the classic stops. If you are flying out rather than heading into the city, the Byron Bay to Brisbane Airport transfer guide is the one you want.
Planning around checkout morning
Most Byron accommodation sets a morning checkout, and the last day of a holiday has a habit of feeling hurried. The easiest fix is to plan your pickup around the checkout time rather than an arbitrary hour.
When you book, give us three things: the exact property address, the checkout time, and the time you need to be in Brisbane. With those, we can suggest a pickup that leaves room for packing, a final coffee and loading the car without anyone watching the clock.
- Check out, then leave: the simplest plan. Your chauffeur arrives at checkout and you are on the road within minutes.
- Check out, then linger: some properties will hold bags for a few hours. If yours does, you could have a last swim or lunch in town and be collected later.
- Leave early: if you have an afternoon commitment in Brisbane, an early start gives you the widest margin.
Whichever you choose, remember that the checkout time is in NSW time, while your Brisbane commitment is in Queensland time. In summer those are an hour apart, which we explain in the hour you gain below. Getting this right at booking is the single best way to avoid an anxious final morning.
On the day, your chauffeur will load the luggage while you do the last sweep of the room. If you have left anything at reception, a quick stop on the way out of town is no trouble.
Private homes and hinterland properties around Byron can be tricky to find, especially behind gates or up long driveways. Include gate codes and any access instructions in your booking so your pickup starts on time.
The hour you gain on the way back
From early October to early April, NSW observes daylight saving and Queensland does not. During those months Byron Bay runs an hour ahead of Brisbane, and on the way north you effectively get that hour back.
Here is how it plays out. Leave Byron at 11 am NSW time, drive for about two hours, and you will reach Brisbane at around 12 pm Queensland time, not 1 pm. That is good news if you are heading to an afternoon meeting, but it can catch people out in the other direction: a Brisbane commitment at 2 pm is 3 pm in Byron terms.
When you book, tell us the Brisbane time you need to arrive and we will work out the Byron pickup time in NSW time. Your phone may switch time zones as you cross the border, so it is worth confirming any appointments in Queensland time.
Outside the daylight saving months, both states share the same time and there is nothing to adjust. If you are doing a round trip, our guide to heading south to Byron explains how the hour works the other way.
The drive north and when traffic builds
The Pacific Highway section from Byron to the border is usually steady. The variables begin once you join the M1 on the Gold Coast, where local traffic, tourist traffic and Brisbane commuters all share the same motorway.
- Late morning: often the smoothest window. The northbound morning peak into Brisbane has eased and the afternoon build-up has not yet started.
- Mid to late afternoon: the M1 gets busy through the northern Gold Coast and Logan, and Brisbane's own afternoon traffic adds to it near the city.
- Sunday afternoons: the return of weekend visitors to Brisbane. Expect the motorway to be slower than a weekday at the same hour.
- End of school holidays: the same pattern, magnified. Allow a generous buffer.
Your chauffeur checks conditions before departure and keeps an eye on incidents and roadworks on the way. If the timing matters, a buffer is far better than a sprint.

Stops on the way home
The journey home does not have to be a straight run. Because the car runs to your schedule, a short stop is easy to add, and it can soften the end of a holiday.
- Bangalow for breakfast: a short detour inland from Byron, and a pleasant start before the highway.
- A Gold Coast lunch: breaking the trip roughly halfway, with a stop near the beach before the final run into Brisbane.
- A shopping stop: some passengers like to pick something up on the way, and our destinations page shows where we regularly travel.
If a slower day appeals, an hourly or as-directed booking keeps the chauffeur with you throughout. For a Gold Coast stop with children, our Gold Coast theme park transfers guide explains how a park day can be built into a longer journey.
Arriving in Brisbane CBD
Brisbane's city centre has one-way streets, busy hotel entrances and limited kerbside space. A chauffeur takes the stress out of the last kilometre: you are dropped at the right entrance, bags are unloaded, and nobody needs to find parking.
When you book, be specific about your drop-off. "Brisbane CBD" covers a lot of ground. A hotel name and street address, an office building and the entrance you want, or a home address in the inner suburbs all help your chauffeur plan the final approach. Heading home to the suburbs instead? We drop off at private addresses across Brisbane, and arriving at your own front door after a holiday, without a hire car to return, is a pleasant way to finish.
Many inner-city hotels have a covered entrance or a short-stay bay where the car can pull in briefly. Others sit on busy streets with little room to stop. Your chauffeur will choose the safest point for unloading, and if your hotel has a preferred drop-off spot, mention it in your booking notes. If you are going on to the coast later in your stay, our Brisbane city to Gold Coast private transfer guide covers that journey.
Not heading to the city at all? Many Byron guests are joining a ship. See our guide to Brisbane cruise terminal transfers, and check boarding times with your cruise line.
Events and business in Brisbane
A good share of Byron to Brisbane trips have a reason at the other end: a conference, a client meeting, a concert or a match. These are the trips where the timing really matters.
Business and conferences
If you are heading to a meeting or a conference venue at South Bank after a few days in Byron, the car becomes a quiet place to prepare. Tell us the start time and the venue, and we will build in a buffer for traffic. Corporate travellers often combine this with a later Gold Coast to Brisbane city transfer or an airport run at the end of the week.
Concerts, matches and big nights
Major events at Brisbane's stadiums and entertainment venues bring road closures and heavy traffic around the precincts. If you are dropping your bags at a hotel first, allow extra time and let us know the event so we can plan the approach. Check event details and any transport advice with the venue.
Celebrations and family occasions
Some trips north are for a birthday dinner, a family gathering or a wedding in Brisbane after time away in Byron. If you need to change before the event, allow time at the hotel first. For a group travelling together, a single van keeps everyone, and everyone's outfits, in one place.
Choosing a vehicle for the return
Holidays tend to generate luggage. The bags that fitted on the way down may have company on the way home, particularly after a week of Byron markets and boutiques.
- Executive Audi Sedan: up to three passengers with standard suitcases. Ideal for couples and business travellers.
- Executive Mercedes V-Class: up to seven passengers, with room for surfboards, prams and extra bags.
- Child seats: available on request; tell us the ages when you book.
You can compare both in our fleet. If your group is splitting between the airport and the city, see the Byron Bay to Brisbane Airport guide, and mention it when you get an instant quote.
The Mercedes van takes up to seven passengers and their luggage.

Frequently asked questions
How long is the drive from Byron Bay to Brisbane CBD?
Without stops it is typically around two hours for roughly 170 km. Afternoon and Friday traffic on the M1 through the Gold Coast and Logan can add noticeably to that, so we build in a buffer when you have a fixed commitment in Brisbane.
Does the time change when we drive from Byron to Brisbane?
Between early October and early April, yes. NSW observes daylight saving and Queensland does not, so you arrive in Brisbane an hour earlier on the clock than the Byron time would suggest. Outside those months both states share the same time.
Can you collect us straight after checkout?
Yes. Tell us your checkout time and the property address, including any access notes, and we will time the pickup to suit. If you would like a final breakfast or a swim first, we can plan around that too.
Can you drop us at a Brisbane venue rather than a hotel?
Yes. We can take you to an office, a conference venue at South Bank, a stadium precinct or a private address. Let us know the exact drop-off point when you book so your chauffeur knows where to go.
Which vehicle suits a group heading back to Brisbane?
The Executive Audi Sedan carries up to three passengers with standard luggage. For up to seven passengers, or anyone with surfboards and a holiday's worth of bags, the Executive Mercedes V-Class is the better fit.
